Power expectation as a unified metric for the evaluation of vibration energy harvesters

Vibration energy harvesters (VEHs) allow the extraction of ambient mechanical energy. The proposed analysis focuses on bistable with Duffing nonlinearity. Bistable exhibit larger frequency bandwidth than linear monostable harvesters, but they complex behaviors (i.e., multiple periodic orbits and chaos), making their evaluation challenging. To assess quality a VEH, it is necessary to evaluate its performance generically. In this paper, we offer new quantitative metric that can be used while taking into account richness diversity dynamics. This – called power expectation based average harvested each existing orbit weighted by occurrence probability. value depends harvester characteristics potential jump strategy implemented. Finally, define figure merit (FoM) integral over all vibration frequencies. FoM for generic nonlinear (NVEHs), various respective probability depending used. also makes possible ensure fair comparison VEHs quantitatively effectiveness strategies given VEH.
